What You Can Do To Improve Your Nutritional Intake

Published January 11, 2013

You must always have your nutrition in the back of your mind. Stay away from over-processed foods. While organic stores can be expensive, it is possible to find organic items at your local grocery shop, too.

Incorporate legumes and nuts into your diet to help reduce meat consumption while still getting the adequate protein your body needs. Black beans make great Cuban meals, or you can take the meat out of your tacos and replace it with lentils that’re seasoned. Burritos, dips, bean soups, quesadillas and many other foods don’t need to have meat while giving you a good helping of fiber.

This will prevent you from going out at the last minute and buying fast food. If you have many meal choices you will be less likely to quit out of boredom.

A good way to improve your nutritional habits is to banish junk foods like cakes, candies and sugary drinks from your kitchen. Stock your kitchen with healthier alternatives instead, like low-fat popcorn, fresh vegetables and fruits. Plain yogurt, rice cakes, beans, unsalted nuts and whole grain foods are also good alternatives to sugared or salted snacks.

One way to keep yourself healthy is to consume a lot of garlic. One of the best natural antibiotics is garlic. Garlic is used in a variety of dishes the world over. If seasoning your food with garlic doesn’t sound appetizing, roasting garlic in the oven on its own can be delicious as well.

To sneak some better nutrition into your diet, you can add healthy, tasteless foods to something you’re already eating. This works well if you and your kids are picky eaters. Examples of this approach include adding a 1/2 cup of white beans to your next loaf of bread or batch of cookies. Your whole family will be eating healthier and they won’t notice the difference.

Fueling your body with nutritious foods is easier than you may think. Whether you choose to purchase healthier options in the store or even grow your own, you have so many viable options. Try container gardening, such as hanging versions for berries and tomatoes, or large patio pots for lettuce and peppers.
