Nutrition Tips For A Healthy Body

Published March 16, 2014

Many people talk about wanting to change their poor eating and commencing to eat healthy foods, but few actually make better food choices that improve their nutrition. All you need are some new ideas and the will to get started.

Many people assume salad is good for them. While the vegetables are indeed good for you, the dressing is not. Creamy dressings are high in fat and low in beneficial nutrients. Make your own dressing with olive oil for a healthy alternative. Cranberries and walnuts also make good salad toppers.

Consume non-meat sources of protein as well as meats. Many foods contain high amounts of protein. Some options you might consider are nuts, fish, or soy products. Many can be used as additives to various meals or even the main dish. Make sure to add a variety of protein to your diet to keep things interesting.

Trans Fat

Avoid foods that contain trans fat, such as highly processed foods. When you eat foods with a high content of trans fat, it puts you at higher risk for developing heart disease. HDL, or good cholesterol, is depressed by trans fats, while bad cholesterol (LDL) occurs in higher levels.

Experts agree that you need to reduce the amount of processed flour and grains in your diet. Removing the outer hulls or husks from grains takes away the majority of their good nutrients. Should you do this and proceed to purchase wheat germ or other fiber additives to add to the grain in order to regenerate the benefits derived from the whole grain that is lost? No, it’s much more productive for people to get necessary nutrients from the food they eat.

Use the advice from this article, and take proper nutrition into your own hands. You will soon see that having better nutrition makes your life both healthier and happier.
