Eating Well Is The Basis Of Living Well

Published February 25, 2014

It should be easy to get good nutrition with the right tools. Unfortunately, with the overwhelming amount of information available to consumers in this new cyber-society, it is often difficult to make wise choices about what to consume on a daily basis. Reading this article will provide you with the basic facts about nutrition and also make it easy to apply it to your life on a regular basis.

Although salads have a well-deserved reputation for being healthy, many people reduce or eliminate the health benefits by slathering their salad in rich dressings. Creamy dressings can add fat and calories to an otherwise healthy meal. Instead, opt for vinaigrette dressing. Even better, use olive oil and vinegar to make it yourself. Adding a few nuts or cranberries can be a terrific option.

Protein Bars

When you are on the go, carrying protein bars and nutritional supplements is always a smart idea. Perhaps you have noticed that it has become increasingly hard to get a decent meal in an airport. You are either stuck on a flight which serves no food, rushing through the security check, or just waiting for your plan to arrive. Having protein bars handy will allow you to curb your appetite until you can eat a healthy meal.

Those convenience foods in your supermarket aisle are to be avoided, because they are usually highly processed and contain unhealthy fats. You will have a higher chance of getting heart disease if you frequently eat foods high in trans fat. Consumption of trans fats affect the levels of good and bad cholesterol levels adversely. It increases levels of LDL (bad) and decreases levels of HDL (good) within your system.

Reading was the easy part! Putting into practice what you have learned will take a little more effort but be well worth the energy spent and even give you more energy in the long run. You have taken the initial steps necessary to begin positive changes in your consumption habits and once you put them into action you will be much happier and healthier for it!
